چکیده

Topology is a fundamental part of a network that governs connectivity between nodes, the amount of data flow and the efficiency of data flow between nodes. In traditional networks, due to physical limitations, topology remains static for the course of the network operation. Ubiquitous data networks (UDNs), alternatively, are more adaptive and can be configured for changes in their topology. This flexibility in controlling their topology makes them very appealing and an attractive medium for supporting “anywhere, any place” communication. However, it raises the problem of designing a dynamic topology. The dynamic topology design problem is of particular interest to application service providers who need to provide cost-effective data services on a ubiquitous network. In this paper we describe algorithms that decide when and how the topology should be reconfigured in response to a change in the data communication requirements of the network. In particular, we describe and compare a greedy algorithm, which is often used for topology reconfiguration, with a non-greedy algorithm based on metrical task systems. Experiments show the algorithm based on metrical task system has comparable performance to the greedy algorithm at a much lower reconfiguration

Scalable Middleware for Context-Aware Ubiquitous Computing

In ubiquitous computing systems it is important for applications to obtain context information and adapt their behavior according to context information. For a ubiquitous application to obtain and use context information, it is necessary to provide basic services to discover proper context providers and exchange/store/infer from context information. Moreover, when providing such services, non-f...

A Fuzzy Based Three Color Meter/Marker for Diffserv Networks (RESEARCH NOTE)

Differentiated Services (Diffserv) which was proposed by Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF), is a scalable and robust model for providing the end-to-end QoS. In the Diffserv networks, metering mechanisms are used to measure traffic stream. The single rate Three Color Meter (srTCM) [1],which was proposed by IETF,‏ meters an IP packet stream and marks its packets either green, yellow, or red....

Providing Robust and Ubiquitous Security Support for Mobile Ad Hoc Networks

Providing security support for mobile ad-hoc networks is challenging for several reasons: (a) wireless networks are susceptible to attacks ranging from passive eavesdropping to active interfering, occasional break-ins by adversaries may be inevitable in a large time window; (b) mobile users demand “anywhere, anytime” services; (c) a scalable solution is needed for a large-scale mobile network. ...

QoS for multimedia on the Internet

The growth of multimedia on the Internet is evidently increasing. The advances in the video compression (e.g., H.263) and audio compression (e.g., G.729) that enables transmitting video and audio streams over low speed links, and the vast growth of palm and ubiquitous computing create a strong motivation and new challenges for wireless multimedia. On the other hand, providing high bandwidth hig...

A Novel Strategy for Managing User's Locations in PCS Networks Based on a Novel Hot Spots Topology

As PCS networks aim to provide “anytime-anywhere” cellular services, they enable Mobile Terminals (MTs) to communicate regardless of their locations. However, in order to guarantee a successful service delivery, MTs’ real time location should be continuously managed by the network. Location management plays the central role in providing ubiquitous network communications services, which includes...
